Off late I have been seeing a rise in the rape cases and murders in India. We always read and follow such news when it happens with a lot of importance and curiosity. But as the time passes we start showing less and less interest in it. Why does this happen? Have you ever wondered?
Well the answer is nothing but the current law system of our country. Our country has a law where in it can pass a Capital Punishment on an accused depending on the severity of the crime he has committed. This rule was passed in 1983 by Supreme Court. But its never been used so much. Since 1995 till date there are only 3 cases where this was used. First being Auto Shankar in 1995, 2nd was Dhananjoy Chatterjee in 2004 and finally Ajmal Kasab in 2012 (we are still trying to recover from the losses our nation suffered after treating our guest of honor for 4 years from 2008 till 2012 with security and biryani amounting to a whopping 53.5 Crores).
I guess its time that this law be used as maximum as possible for all the crimes that falls under the category that demands capital punishment. Definitely Rape Case falls under this category and according to my suggestion we have to use this for every rape case in the nation.
I know this is gonna sound off the topic but it is worth mentioning here. We always talk about women empowerment but what are we doing to make the women of our country feel safe. Women are actually an endangered species in our country. They go through a lot during their life. We don't provide them with proper protection under any clause and hence they don't rise up and stand against anything because they very well know that their voices will be suppressed. The question is how long are we going to suppress their voice? One day they will rise and when all of them stand together the law will have to bow down in front of them. After all what are they asking for? Just their right to live in the society and to be treated as equals. We have seen a lot of commercials on Female Genocide and Awareness Against Domestic Violence, but how many percent of the population can stand up and say that they completely believe that this has stopped, that there is not a single female genocide being committed at present or not a single case of domestic violence occurring in the country behind the closed walls of a house? The answer is none.
Well now coming back to the recent events that has taken the city by rage the rape of a medical student in Delhi. The need of the hour says that all those accused deserve a capital punishment. Talking about Capital Punishment the law also states clearly it need not be a death penalty. Well definitely it need not be a death penalty in case of this crime. The best punishment is the old method and also the punishment some countries still implement for such an offense. Cut off the private parts of the accused which very much made them do the offense. There are several ways to do the same and since its a public blog I will not get in to the graphic details of the same. The other method is also humiliating the accused in front of the entire general public by whipping them and punishing them with a public death sentence as well.
I know not many of you reading my blog would take accept to my suggestions but believe me by taking these steps we will ensure that such a heinous crime will be curbed to a great extent and I mean it. Because if every such case of murder and rape is dealt with such serious punishment then a person planning to commit such an offense in future will think twice because he is well aware of what awaits him.
Obviously for all these things to be effective we also need to close all loop holes in the system i.e. the law enforcers should also stand their ground and support it and ensure that these criminals are brought to justice. No matter who commits the crime be it a politician or his kin or any other citizen of India, if there is a law it is the same for everyone. And the major factor is once this punishment is passed no one should be allowed to apply for a mercy plea.
If the system is not going to do something now, then the day is really not far when the citizens will take the matter into their own hands and will ensure that the accused are brought to justice. And when this happens there will be no stopping them.
P.S. : This is a small note to all those silent eyed-witnesses who inspite of seeing a crime happening in front of them don't take an initiative to stop it by intervening. Believe me its a small step from you that will lead to a greater difference to mankind. Also a word of advice to the law enforcers, how you treat the women of this country shows how developed we are as a nation. So if you want to be respected then its imperative that you learn to give respect.
